All Natural Homemade Deodorant Recipe

Well we've been waiting with bated breath for a week for our Mountain Rose Herbs shipment to arrive from Eugene, OR with our first ever order of essential oils. In addition to general therapeutic use we really wanted to try making our own natural deodorants for a variety of reasons. For the last week I've been gathering various supplies to use in the deodorant making progress (ie. baking soda, arrowroot powder, beeswax, etc). Yesterday our box arrived containing many little bottles of fragrant plant essences.

Today we attempted our first batches of homemade
deodorant. I wanted to try a variation on the "Thieves Blend" recipe of essential oils, Lindsay wanted something less "manly smelling," And Finn wanted something with Rosemary. All our recipes are the same except with different essential oil blends.

Deodorant Recipe

1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder
2 tablespoons beeswax
5 tablespoons coconut oil
15 drops essential oil blend (varied)

Heat a pot of water to near boiling with just enough water to not float the jar you are using to make your deo. Set the jar in hot water. Put coconut oil and beeswax in jar to melt. Once wax is melted swirl the mixture around in the bottom of the jar. Remove the jar and add essential oil blend then swirl. Add powder and soda and stir with a spoon or utensil. Pour into washed and prepped deodorant bar container. (If deodorant container has a bottom with holes then cut a small piece of wax/parchment paper the correct size, poke a hole in the center and scroll the container bottom all the way down holding the paper in place). Then pour the hot liquid into the deodorant containers, put lids on, and place in freezer to cool and harden.

Essential Oil Blends

Rogue Blend #1: 6 drops clove bud oil, 5 drops eucalyptus lemon oil, 2 drops cinnamon leaf oil, 2 drops rosemary oil.

Lindsay's Refresh Blend: 8 drops coriander oil, 6 drops peppermint oil, 3 drops tea tree oil.

Rogue Blend #2: 8 drops clove bud oil, 5 drops lime oil, 4 drops eucalyptus oil, 2 drops cinnamon leaf oil, 2 drops rosemary oil, 1 drop tea tree oil.

Finn's Blend: 8 drops cinnamon leaf oil, 8 drops rosemary oil.
