So Much To Do...

Finn, Josh, & I picked a bucket of okra this afternoon just before the rain hit. We got a few more jalapenos too. It is seriously time to do some pickling... So dinner was fresh fried okra and leftover Decoration Day goat stew. I am glad I planted the okra as an afterthought since it seems to be the main thing producing this year.

I didn't get much done today, can only hope tomorrow will be better... I know the first half of the day is spoken for by my boy but we might try to take a couple of goats to the Pulaski vet (Tolstoy has a hacking cough and BoPeep has had gunk in her eyes since a couple of days after she got here). Since I have heard such good things about him and I definitely want all my animals to be in good health I might as well right? We also need to make a new goat shelter for the boys in the buck pen since the igloo dog house doesn't seem to be to their liking (that is what I was supposed to do today but got sidetracked). Tomorrow afternoon is claimed by my part-time job selling comic books on eBay, which incidentally is treating me okay.

I checked a couple of the regular spots for persimmons today for the first time this year, but it seems like we have a way to go before I try to do something preservative with them (jam, wine, pudding? who knows). We need to start hauling in some chucks of wood to get ready for the winter, and we need to get ready to do something with the apples my neighbor's tree is producing. My dad says his pears and figs aren't quite ready yet, but I need to be ready for them as well. Not really sure what to do with the figs...

All these things make me realize that I need to get the shelves for the utility room and the second pantry finished soon too so that I will have a place to put some of this stuff... Also need to buy a freezer and plant a food plot for some deer out in the woods so that maybe we can get another one or two this year...

  1. Have you ever checked out Swap and Shop on WKSR? It is out of Giles County, they have all sorts of agriculture related things and at least once a week I see a freezer for sale for cheap (or even free)...

Go to wksr.com, then click on swap and shop. I check it at least once a day for updates.
